What You Need to Know About Urinary Tract Infections (UTI)

Urinary Tract Infection, more commonly called UTI, is an infection in the parts of the urinary system either in the ureters, kidneys, urethra, or bladder, which happens mostly to women but only about 1 in 10 men. Women are more susceptible to this infection as the urethra is close to the anus, making them more at risk for bacteria to get to the urethra and travel up to the bladder. If not treated, bacteria can reach the kidneys. This is why doctors from healthcare in Maryland recommend women to wipe from front to back after using the bathroom.

Symptoms include fever or chills, burning feeling when peeing, pressure or pain in the lower back or lower abdomen, frequent or intense urge to pee yet little comes out, feeling shaky or tired, and dark, bloody, cloudy, or strange-smelling pee. Seek medical services right away when you are experiencing these symptoms.

You might need to get into a walk-in clinic to determine which type of UTI you may have based on which part of your urinary system the infection is located. It’s called cystitis if it is in the bladder, pyelonephritis if in the kidneys, urethritis if in the urethra. Urine samples will be needed to test for UTI-causing bacteria.

Falling in a queue for a hospital checkup may be time-consuming, but you can always choose to walk into an urgent care center in Clinton, Maryland, for fast accommodation and results. Antibiotics are the most common treatment, along with drinking lots of water to flush the bacteria from the body.
